Love, Joy, Peace...
Romans 12:6-8
6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Meet Our Team

Worship Leader
Lance Driskell
Pastor

Lance is originally from Chilton County, Alabama, and currently resides in Hoover, Alabama. He has been married to his wife, Erin since 2011. He has 3 children, Madison, Maecie & Parker, a son-in-law Gage, and grandson, Tate.

Lance began singing gospel music at a young age alongside his family. As a young man, he developed a dependence on alcohol—one that seemed almost impossible to overcome. That changed on March 15, 2019, when Lance surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. Through God’s grace, he was forgiven, delivered from alcohol, and began experiencing the restoration of relationships that had once been broken.

In 2023, Lance answered God’s call into pastoral ministry, not realizing at the time that the Lord was leading him back to his hometown - back to his roots. Lance wants you to know this: God loves you. No matter where you’ve been, what you’ve done, or how far you think you’ve fallen—there is no debt too great that the blood of Jesus cannot cover. He loves you. Colossians 2:13-15
Worship Leader
Paul Hilyer
Worship Leader

Paul relocated to Chilton County in 2017 and developed a special bond with Mt Carmel #1 Baptist Church in 2018. He accepted the position of Worship Leader on two occasions of which the most recent was October 2024. He is a graduate of both Lincoln HS and the University of Montevallo with a bachelor of Business Administration and Music Education. He brings over 40 years of music experience with children, youth and adult music ministries. His ministry involved children’s choirs and musicals, youth discipleship and musical tours with a variety of adult ensembles and choirs presenting cantatas, musicals and associational music rally’s. Paul’s mission is to glorify God realizing that worship is a scriptural command and a method to deepen your faith and a way to express thankfulness and declare God’s truth.
Youth Pastor
Thomas Gay
Youth Pastor

Thomas Gay and his wife, Jenna, have been married for five years and are expecting their first child in August. Thomas grew up in ministry and gave his life to Christ at a young age through Vacation Bible School. At fifteen, he answered God’s call and surrendered his life to serve in youth ministry, and he now faithfully serves Mt. Carmel as Youth Pastor.

Thomas has a deep passion for youth and understands from personal experience how formative and challenging these years can be for young people. His heart is to walk alongside students as they grow in their faith, helping them build a strong foundation in Christ that will guide them throughout their lives. He believes youth ministry should be a place where students feel loved, encouraged, and challenged to pursue God wholeheartedly.

Thomas and Jenna are grateful to be part of the Mt. Carmel church family and are excited about this new season of life, both in ministry and as they prepare to welcome their first child.
