How Do I Become a Follower of Christ?

ADMIT that He has not been the master of your life and ask Him to forgive you.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)

Sin is any thought or action that rejects God or breaks his heart.

CONFESS your faith and trust in Him for your salvation.
"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)

Faith is giving more than intellectual assent. Faith means, because you believe something is true, you are willing to order your life around it.

RECEIVE His gracious offer of a new life and family.
"Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God." (John 1:12-13)

LIVE every day in light of God's awesome grace.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:1-2)

A Final Promise : "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13)

A Simple Prayer

Beginning the journey of following Jesus Christ can start for you. God is ready to take you in as his adopted child. You can begin this incredible journey of faith by inviting Jesus Christ into your life. A simple prayer can conversationally express your desire to God:

God, I recognize that I have sinned and fall short of having a meaningful relationship with you. I confess my sins and confess my faith in you for salvation. I receive your gift of new life as part of your family. Teach me to live every day with an awareness of your love and grace. Help me discover daily your forgiveness and transforming power. Transform me into one who brings delight to your heart.

Praying this prayer (or one similar) is indeed the beginning of an incredible adventure as you learn what it means to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

At Mt. Carmel Baptist Church we desire to help you grow in your understanding of faith. We desire to be a place where you experience the love and grace of God through Jesus Christ.
